Thanks to your help, TREECK® was able to plant 11,500 trees in Ghana in 2020.

11,500 TREES FOR GHANA

We associate Ghana with a beautiful wildlife, miles of sandy beaches along a picturesque coastline and beautiful forests. As Ghanaians derive 80 percent of their income from forestry, it is not surprising that the country's forests have lost a third - around 2.5 million hectares - to deforestation since the early 1990s. The geographical proximity to the Sahara and Sahel deserts has further encouraged desertification. Thanks to your help, TREECK® has been able to counteract this trend.

FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR NATURE AND COMMUNITIES IN AFRICA

The 11,500 trees - mahogany, rosewood, teak and eucalyptus - for this project are from a local tree nursery. In addition to restoring habitats for animals and soil quality, this has also helped to support the local economy and combat rural poverty. The community members were also trained in productive and sustainable land management. This is to ensure that the reforested areas are preserved for future generations and that food security is improved in the long term. Renaturation also helps to improve soil quality and thus protect water catchment areas. With the support of TREECK®, sustainable sources of food, wood and income can be secured.

With the 11,500 trees, TREECK® supported the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100). This initiative has set itself the goal of reforesting 100 million hectares of land throughout the country with mixed forest by 2030. More than 20 African governments and numerous partners are involved in the project.

EDUCATE AND ENCOURAGE

Information is the basis for sustainability - such as educating young people in Ghana about the importance of sustainable forestry for the long-term health of the economy and natural resources.

REBUILDING SOIL QUALITY

Trees improve the health of the soil by protecting it from wind and rain. They also absorb water and provide stability with their root structures.

STABILIZE THE CLIMAT

Planting trees in Ghana helps to create young resilient forests that can absorb carbon, clean the water and air and recover from fires, droughts and floods.
